The Bounty Hunter Gang: Press

Separate Roads

“What’s in a name?” The name Bounty Hunter, now The Bounty Hunter Gang, may elicit thoughts of Molly Hatchett? Southern rock? “Wild-Eyed Southern Boys?” Maybe, but while The Bounty Hunter Gang mine the soil of southern rock they actually play their own unique brand of thinking man’s southern rock thanks to the intelligently crafted songs of The Bounty Hunter Gang’s Chris Davis and the well-thought-out guitar arrangements of Davis and Thom Greis. Now I know what you’re thinking, intelligent and southern rock may be an oxymoron and it would be except this band play so well and with such finesse that they overcome any stereotype of the typical southern rock band (think less Molly Hatchett and more 38 Special, Southern rock with a twist of pop). Influences from The Outlaws (“High Road”) to early Allman Brothers (“You Don’t Have To Be Lonely” and a nod to The Brothers’ “Little Martha” with TBHG’s instrumental “Smilin’” ) are present but The Bounty Hunter Gang represent the Southern rock genre without being overly derivative. Exceptional harmonies abound throughout (including the very Poco-ish “High Wire”) courtesy a crisp, clear production from the band. As an aside, I must say the packaging is some of the best I’ve ever seen from an independent band and props must go out to graphic artist Michele Klock for the fine artwork and layout. From beginning to end, from packaging to production, The Bounty Hunter Gang’s brand of southern rock is a cut above the rest. Get some! www.chrisdavis-evermore.com – Reviewed by Sterling Koch
